Teen girl dead, woman hospitalized after fire rips through home in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A teenage girl is dead and an elderly woman is hospitalized following a fire that ripped through a home in Hollywood overnight.

The fire started just before 3 a.m. at the single-family home on Vista Del Mar Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Firefighters quickly knocked down enough of the flames to search inside the home.

They pulled two people from the home. A girl, estimated to be about 15 years old, died at the scene.

Fire officials initially said both people died, but Capt. Cody Weireter later clarified that first responders were able to bring back the pulse of an elderly woman on the way to the hospital.

That older victim was described as a woman in her 70s or 80s. She was said to be in grave condition.

Fire crews extinguished the flames in 19 minutes.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The L.A. County Medical Examiner and arson investigators responded to the scene.
