POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – A critically acclaimed documentary about life on Tangier Island will be screened at the Mar-Va Theatre in a special two-night event.
The documentary, Been Here Stay Here, originally premiered at the 2024 International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. It has also gone on to be part of the official selection of multiple U.S. film festivals.
“This is the kind of film we almost never see anymore. No stats, no narration. Just life, unfolding,” said David Usui, director of the film.
The film documents the centuries-old way of life that dominates the fishing community on the island. It examines how the traditions and cultures of Tangier are being affected and changed by its eroding shorelines. The island has reportedly lost more than two-thirds of its landmass since the 1850s, and is widely considered a climate tragedy.
The film will be screened at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, and Saturday, Sept. 27. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.
