UAPB 77, BETHUNE-COOKMAN 54
A hot-shooting second half steered the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to a rout in front of its home crowd at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
UAPB (5-10, 2-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) trailed 33-30 at halftime but shot 62.5% (15 of 24) over the final two quarters. The Golden Lions also held Bethune-Cookman to 27.3% (6 of 22) from the floor over that same stretch, and that allowed them to turn things around and respond favorably after losing by 23 points to Texas Southern in their previous game.
Indiya Bowen tallied 21 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds for UAPB, which also scored 30 points off 24 turnovers. Khaniah Gardner came off the bench to score 15 points, while Jailah Pelly netted 12 points. The Golden Lions finished 27 of 47 (57.4%) from the field and recorded 15 steals — their second most in a contest this season.
Janessa Kelley scored 14 points, while Tyler Butler ended with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (3-14, 1-3), who made 19 of 43 (44.2%) shots for the game.
