Sunny, Small Storm Chance by Monday Evening

We will be off to a warm start to the work week with temperatures on Monday afternoon reaching the lower 80s. A front will move in through the late morning and early afternoon hours, which will go on to spark storms for far southeast Nebraska by Monday evening.

The latest run of StormCast keeps us mostly clear through Sunday evening and early Monday. Storm chances increase throughout the afternoon and evening, with showers continuing into the day on Tuesday.

We start Monday morning with lows in the middle to upper 40s in eastern Nebraska. Variable cloud cover will be possible through the early portions of the overnight hours.

A few passing clouds early in the evening in Lincoln, before we see gradual clearing close to sunrise. Temperatures will be seasonal for early May, just a couple of degrees above average.

A stray strong to severe storm cannot be ruled out on Monday afternoon and evening. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for far southeast Nebraska. The majority of the state could still see thunderstorms later in the day. Quarter-sized hail and 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts would be the main concerns in the strongest storms.

Highs on Monday will range from the lower 80s in southeast Nebraska to the lower 60s off to the north and west. High temperatures will depend on how quickly the cold front moves across the state.

Even with the northerly wind shift, we are still expecting afternoon highs in the lower 80s for Lincoln.

Temperatures will plummet for Tuesday and Wednesday, with chances for scattered showers on both days. Sunny skies return for the end of the week with highs returning to the 70s and 80s through Mother’s Day weekend.
