ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico faces increasing rain chances this week with heavy rain possible by Wednesday and Thursday and a higher risk of minor street flooding.
Some parts of the state saw showers and brief thunderstorms Monday, and more isolated rain could develop into the evening and overnight hours.
By about 7 a.m. Tuesday, showers and a few thunderstorms may develop south and west of Albuquerque. A spot shower is possible in the metro from morning into the afternoon, but most of the area is expected to stay mostly dry.
Temperatures Tuesday morning will start in the 40s and 50s, including upper 40s in the Albuquerque metro area. Afternoon highs will reach the 60s and 70s, while Carlsbad could warm into the low 80s.
A weather pattern change will build from Tuesday through the end of the week, with the best chances for rain expected Wednesday and Thursday.
The forecast links that system with moisture from Tropical Storm Trudy in the eastern Pacific, which is currently a Category 2 hurricane and is expected to weaken later in the work week.
The active weather pattern is expected to continue through Friday before drier conditions may return for some areas by Saturday and Sunday.
