Stunning New Orleans home Uptown boasts modern conveniences | Entertainment/Life

Sitting in a prime spot in Uptown New Orleans, a few blocks from St. Charles and Louisiana avenues and Magazine Street, is a new home that seems to have been on the spot for years.

The almost 5,700-square-foot domicile is a fashionable addition to the area, replacing a former commercial strip at 3620 Chestnut St.

Incorporating many of the vintage elements seen on existing, palatial homes that drape the neighborhood in history and gentle ambiance, this six-bedroom, five-plus-bath home offers many contemporary elements designed for family living in the roaring ’20s of the 21st century for $2.455 million.

A broad driveway provides ample off-street parking for several vehicles at the home.

The two-story home features the classic look of a New Orleans residence, with shutter-framed floor-length windows, a double-columned gallery and wrought iron details. Dentil work along the entablature creates interest and an aged appeal. The double drive balances the home on the lot that features tidy plantings and a brick walkway to the front door.

A sitting room is step inside the home, a cozy space that enjoys two floor-length windows with a view of the front porch.

The foyer opens to a broad hall with wood floors that beckon entry to the home. To the right through a double opening, a sitting room or home office enjoys large windows looking onto the front porch. Detailed ceiling work and a medallion with a chair rail offer interesting details in the space.

The light-filled dining room opens to the central hall, with access to the butler’s pantry and the kitchen.

The butler’s pantry connects the dining room to the kitchen and cleverly provides a large wine refrigerator, extra dishwasher, counter space for preparation and storage for serving pieces and more.

Across the hall, a bright and spacious dining room has windows on two sides and more details, providing a prime spot for delightful dinners and celebratory meals with access to a lengthy butler’s pantry with wine storage, vast counter space and storage for plentiful serving pieces and more.

A wet bar is well-located between the dining room, sitting room and just off the home’s massive great room. A powder room is also conveniently spotted close-at-hand.

From school gear to athletic supplies, gardening goodies and groceries, the mudroom is located just off the parking pad for the home, providing a great spot for storage.

Out in the hall, a commanding staircase rises to the upper floors on one side, while a powder room is conveniently located near public rooms. Also taking a place of prominence is a well bar with display cabinetry and concealed storage. A side entry hall also serves as a mud room and landing pad for family paraphernalia including athletic equipment and school supplies.

A wide island creates a delineator for the culinary and relaxing sections of the great room at the back of the house. Seating is also a bonus at the sleek island.

Across the back of the house are the unified living spaces that run from a kitchen and breakfast room on one end to an entertainment mecca on the other.

A staggering amount of cabinetry provides voluminous storage in the kitchen of the house, which features a waterfall-topped island and access to a bright breakfast room overlooking the rear of the property.

An abundance of white cabinets fill the kitchen, which includes marble surfaces on the food preparation area, the central island with farmhouse sink and the additional prep area to the side. Professional-grade appliances in stainless steel are evident and ready for culinary creativity. The central island, which forms the space divider for the grand room, also has seating for up to six. A connected breakfast room is a bright place, with a trio of windows overlooking the backyard.

A voluminous great room is anchored by rich wood floors, while a fireplace is flanked by built-in shelves and cabinets perfect for displaying objet d’art of literature. Double French doors lead to the back porch and the outdoor cooking area.

The great room is a voluminous spot anchored by a large fireplace flanked by cabinets and lighted shelving for art, literature or electronics. A coffered ceiling adds to the roomy feel of the space, which also has a pair of French doors opening to a back patio.

On the second floor, the stairs open to the center of a hall that traverses the level, from the front balcony to the primary suite at the back.

The large primary bedroom is a spacious room with windows on two walls for natural light, plus access to the spa-inspired primary bath.

An oval soaking tub sits beside a standing shower in the primary bath. Twin vanities are ample for unencumbered morning rituals and two walk-in closets are connected to the space.

Matching the size of the great room, the primary bedroom enjoys windows on two walls to provide natural light. The primary bath is a multiroom, spalike enclave with two vanities, separate water closets, separate closets (one looks like a private boutique), oval soaking tub and standing shower.

The floor-length windows in one of the second floor bedrooms are also doorways to the upper gallery, offering a great spot for morning coffee or midnight cocktails.

The upper gallery is trimmed with wrought iron.

Three other bedrooms, all en suite, are on the second floor, with one of the smaller bedrooms having an expansive view through a floor-length window over the upper balcony. A conveniently located laundry sits in the hall across from the stairs.

A large den takes up much of the space on the third floor, providing a family room space for relaxation or gaming.

Up the stairs to the third floor is a large playroom or den with a cozy alcove in the dormer. Two bedrooms have use of a spacious hall bath. Access to storage in the attic is also at hand.

A gas grill is the centerpiece of an al fresco kitchen, located just off the great room.

Pool ready or great for a garden — the back yard is a generous space prime for recreational endeavors.

On the back patio, a gas grill and prep area make for on-site al fresco fun and dining. The sizable backyard is ready for the addition of a pool or detailed plantings.

The home is listed by Ashley Nesser, of Compass, (504) 458-3536.
