BISMARCK – A very well-pitched game gave the Jamestown Eagles a good start, but Jamestown could only come away with a split.

Jaxon Kolpin pitched a four-hit complete game Monday as Jamestown took the opener of a Legion doubleheader from the Bismarck Governors 5-1 at Bismarck Municipal Stadium. Bismarck stormed back to take a 9-2 win in the second game.

Game 1: Jamestown 5, Bismarck 1
Kolpin struck out one and walked two while throwing 92 pitches as Jamestown (5-2, 2-1 AA Legion) took the opener for the second time in as many league doubleheaders.

The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, helped by an RBI double by Bennett Goehner and an RBI single by Kale Verke.

Colton Gerlach extended Jamestown’s lead to 4-1 in the fifth with an RBI single. Verke drove in a run with a ground ball in the seventh for the game’s final run.

Jamestown had nine hits. Brenner Weber, Gerlach and Ethan Oettle had two hits apiece.

Game 2: Bismarck 9, Jamestown 2
Jack Pelham drove in two runs for the Governors, including a sacrifice fly for the third run in a three-run rally in the bottom of the second that put the home team ahead to stay.

Maxon Opdahl had three hits, including a double, and two RBI. Cooper Johnson also knocked in two runs.

Jamestown (5-2, 2-2 AA Legion) scored in each of the first two innings. Goehner hit an RBI groundout in the first and Braxton Perkins contributed a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

Eagles starter Cayleb Miller allowed six runs and eight hits in three and two-thirds innings.

Jamestown will host Minot in a doubleheader Thursday at 5:30 PM at Jack Brown Stadium.
