Spider-Man was on hand Tuesday, July 21, to help a Jonesboro pedestrian cross the street safely.

Feel free to read that sentence again, or maybe a couple of times. 

It’s true – the Jonesboro Police Department posted a video on Facebook depicting a person in a Spider-Man costume hopping out of a Jeep (as we all know, unlike Batman, Spider-Man does not have a dedicated superhero vehicle) to help a wheelchair-bound citizen cross a busy thoroughfare on a blazingly hot day.

Unlike the comic book and movie hero, this version of Spider-Man doesn’t carry a secret identity. A Facebook user identifying themself as the general manager of the nearby Ultimate Air Trampoline Park stated that the rescuer was an employee who had left after participating in a “super hero day” for a group of toddlers.

“This is not AI or anything planned,” the comment reads. “He just is a great person and saw somebody struggling that needed help. He just happened to be in a super hero suit.”

The Jonesboro Police Department responded to the comment, stating that the individual had gained the admiration of the entire department.

“He also put a smile on everyone’s face, including the Chief,” the police replied. “It is great to know that humanity prevails in our city. We are also glad he walked (ran) out of the intersection unscathed!”

We’re guessing that 99.9% of employers in Arkansas never get the chance to say “he just happened to be in a super hero suit.” Either way, we salute this man of mystery for his kind heart and good citizenship.
