Spartans claim road shutout victory

South Warren senior running back Kayden York tallied three rushing touchdowns to pace the visiting Spartans to a 35-0 win against Pulaski County on Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Spartans broke through on York’s 1-yard touchdown run with 7:52 left in the second quarter. York added a 15-yard TD run with 3:51 left in the second as South built a 15-0 lead by halftime.
York picked up his third scored with a 47-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to boost the lead to 21-0, then Chase Bell connected with Griffin Reynolds on a 26-yard touchdown pass with 7:24 left in the third.
Malik Butler capped the scoring with a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:17 left in the third.
South Warren (6-0) hosts Class 6A, District 2 rival Meade County on Thursday.
CAL 27, Bowling Green 24
Host Christian Academy of Louisville scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:20 left in the game to beat Bowling Green 27-24 on Friday.
The Purples got off to a strong start when Andru Jones returned the game’s opening kickoff for a 93-yard touchdown.
CAL tied the game late in the first, but the Purples pushed back ahead 14-7 on Jaxen Smith’s 5-yard touchdown run with 9:11 left in the half.
The Centurions answered with a touchdown, but BG grabbed a 17-14 halftime lead with Oliver Gonzales connected on a 32 yard field goal with just two seconds left in the second.
CAL opened the second half with a touchdown drive to go ahead 21-17, but Smith scored again on a 2-yard run to push the Purples ahead 24-21 before CAL answered one last time.
BG quarterback Anthony Davis was 18-of-35 passing for 182 yards. Hudson Nottmeier had eight catches for 73 yards and Smith tallied six catches for 64 yards.
On defense, Montez Trussell led the Purples with 14 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss – including four sacks. Kyle Sledge had 12 tackles and Smith added a sack.
Bowling Green (1-5) is back at home Thursday against Class 5A, District 2 rival Warren Central.
Logan County 51, Calloway County 13
Logan County quarterback Luke Rogers passed for four touchdowns as the host Cougars routed Class 4A, District 1 rival Calloway County 51-13 on Friday.
Rogers was 18-of-25 passing for 209 yards and four TDs without an interception.
Isaac Christian tallied five catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns, Cooper Parker had three receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown, and Ethan Kelly added a 9-yard TD catch in the win.
Running back Christian Helle totaled a team-high 77 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Parker also had a 3-yard touchdown run.
Kicker Caiden Kirby added a field goal and six extra points.
On defense, Joseph Mctire scored a touchdown off a fumble recovery. William Martin forced a fumble and Kirby, Kelly and Blake Gipson each recovered one. TySean Thomeczek, Elijah Sells and Carson Carlock each tallied an interception. Carlock finished with a team-high eight tackles and two sacks.
Logan County (6-0, 2-0) is on the road to face district rival Paducah Tilghman on Oct. 3.
Russellville 44, HCC 17
Jamarion Gardner ran for 206 yards and three touchdowns to pace homestanding Russellville to a 44-17 win against Hopkins County Central on Friday.
Labryan Nourse added 96 rushing yards and a touchdown, plus tallied three catches for 42 yards. Panthers quarterback Jerius Coleman was 9-of-15 passing for 176 yards and a touchdown. JaCoveon Temple-Dickerson had three catches for 79 yards and a score.
Alex Arnold hit a field goal and tallied an extra point and Madden Bloodworth knocked in four extra points.
Nourse starred on defense with an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown. Randall Morrow also had an interception, Amarus Morrow forced a fumble and tallied a sack among four tackles for loss, Taven Harris also had a sack and Coleman finished with a team-high eight tackles.
Russellville (1-5) opens Class 1A, District 1 competition Oct. 3 at Ballard Memorial.
Glasgow 35, Hart County 6
Glasgow quarterback Hudson Gumm passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the host Scotties rolled to a 35-6 win against Class 3A, District 2 foe Hart County on Friday.
Gumm was 8-of-11 passing for 179 yards and three TDs. He also tallied a team-high 105 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Jaylen Bradley finished with four catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns, plus added a rushing touchdowns. Jerrick Martin tallied four receptions for 61 yards and a TD.
On defense, Bradley came up with an interception and Trace Smith finished with a team-high six tackles.
Glasgow (6-0, 2-0) visits district rival Butler County on Oct. 3.
Barren County 43, Grayson County 0
Briggs Harris passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as host Barren County shut out Class 5A, District 2 foe Grayson County on Friday.
Harris opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Byrd.
Byrd tallied a 6-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Trojans built a 15-0 halftime lead.
Harris broke free for a 20-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, then hooked up with Byrd again on a 21-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 29-0 with 7:49 left in the third.
Late in the third, Harris found Steele Whitaker for a 27-yard touchdown pass.
Jaxon Pierce closed out the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Barren County (3-3, 1-1) hosts district rival Greenwood on Thursday.
Edmonson County 13, Butler County 10
Visiting Edmonson County rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Class 3A, District 2 foe Butler County 13-10 on Friday.
Butler County took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on Brody Dockery’s 69-yard touchdown pass to Carson Davis, then extended the advantage to 10-0 on Jonathan Portillo’s 25-yard field goal with 11:59 left in the fourth.
The Wildcats broke through with Colton White’s 4-yard touchdown run with 6;54 to play, then got the go-ahead score on a pick-six interception return for a touchdown by Blayne Deweese with 3:53 left.
Edmonson County (2-4, 1-1) hosts district opponent LaRue County on Oct. 3.
Butler County (3-3, 0-2) is home against district rival Glasgow on Oct. 3.
Paducah Tilghman 48, ACS 7
Homestanding Paducah Tilghman dealt a 48-7 loss to Class 4A, District 1 rival Allen County-Scottsville on Friday.
Down 35-0 at halftime, the Patriots got a spark to start the third quarter when De’Ante Grainger returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.
ACS (0-6, 0-2) is at district foe Warren East on Oct. 3.
