South Warren boys, BG girls win region titles

The South Warren boys and Bowling Green girls claimed team titles at the KHSAA Region 2 Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at Bowling Green High School.
South Warren finished with 431 points, while runner-up Bowling Green finished with 365 points in the boys’ events. On the girls’ side, Bowling Green led the way with 374 points while South Warren finished second with 308 points.
South Warren and Bowling Green tied in combined scoring, both finishing with 739 points.
Boys’ individual winners included South Warren’s Kenan Aganovic in the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle; Greenwood’s Caden Moseley in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; South Warren’s Brian Bosse in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly; and South Warren’s Lari Skeric in the 100 freestyle.
Individual runner-ups included Skeric in the 50 freestyle; Bowling Green’s Matias Verduzco in the 200 freestyle; Bowling Green’s James Dinan in the 200 individual medley; Bowling Green’s Nick Morris in the 200 freestyle, and Bowling Green’s Jeremiah Lewis in the 1-meter diving.
South Warren also claimed wins in the 200-yard medley relay (Skeric, Artit Kyaw, Noah Walters and Logan Roner) and the 400-yard medley relay (Skeric, Walters, Aganovic and Bosse), while finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Kyaw, Artemiy Arefkin, Aganovic, Bosse).
Bowling Green’s team of Verduzco, John Brown, Morris and Dinan finished second in the 400-yard medley relay.
On the girls’ side, individual winners included South Warren’s Avery Beil in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle; Greenwood’s Ella Klies in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, and Bowling Green’s Macauley McElroy in the 1-meter diving.
Individual runner-ups included South Warren’s Anna Satterfield in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle; Bowling Green’s Hayden Flora in the 200 individual medley; South Warren’s Ella Payne in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; South Warren’s Chloe Parsons in the 100 freestyle and Bowling Green’s Tinsley Jamison in the 100 breaststroke.
Greenwood’s relay team of Maddie Boyer, Erin Hogan, Cayla Flikkema and Ella Klies finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. South Warren’s Payne, Bella Waters, Beil and Satterfield finished second in the 200 medley relay, with Parsons, Emma Ford, Beil and Satterfield finishing second in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The top two finishers and the next 10 best times among teams in Region 1, Region 2 and Region 3 advanced to the first round of the KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships which is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Bowling Green High School.
The finals of the KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for Feb. 20-21 at the Lancaster Aquatic Center at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
