South Portland baseball flirts with back-to-back no-hitters

Nate Masters pitched a one-hitter and Hudson Iacuessa drove in four runs as South Portland remained undefeated with a 13-1 win over Biddeford in a Class A South baseball game Tuesday in Biddeford.

One day after Iacuessa pitched a no-hitter, Masters took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before giving up a one-out single to Payton Blais. He issued three walks and struck out seven.

Cam Barrett contributed two hits and three RBI, and Brady Main had a double, two singles and two RBI for South Portland (5-0), which is tied with Oxford Hills for first place in the Varsity Maine Top 10.

Biddeford, the defending state champion, is 2-3.

WESTBROOK 5, PORTLAND 2: Wyatt Poitras pitched a three-hitter, Josh Bainter-Clark and Colby Hodgkins each had two hits, and the Blue Blazes (1-3) downed the Bulldogs (0-5) in Westbrook.

Poitras struck out 10, walked four and did not allow an earned run.

Owen Redding and Brady Peterson each drove in a run for Westbrook, which went ahead for good with a three-run fifth inning for a 4-2 lead.

Mateo Pulaski struck out 10 for Portland.

FALMOUTH 8, DEERING 3: Cooper Bucci and Joah D’Andrea both drove in two runs and Jacoby Porter struck out 10 in 4 2/3 innings as the Navigators (3-2) defeated the Rams (0-5) in Falmouth.

Porter gave up five hits and three runs, two of which were unearned. He also hit an RBI triple and scored in the first inning, stake Falmouth to a 2-0 lead.

D’Andrea, Mason Pechinski, Caden Berry, Ryan Harder and Ben Robbins all had two hits for Falmouth.

Miles Lawrence led Deering with three hits, including two doubles.

MASSABESIC 2, NOBLE 1: Parker Soule-Parent and Judd Rand combined on a three-hitter, and the Mustangs (3-0) fought off the Knights (2-3) in North Berwick.

Soule-Parent struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings while walking four and yielding three hits. Rand got the final five outs for a save.

Noah Pomerleau smacked two doubles, and Henry Marcotte and Trent Tyler also had two hits for Massabesic.

Carl Gregoire singled home Owen Orlando in the sixth inning for Noble’s lone run.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 3, BOOTHBAY 0: Trent Lovewell fanned 14 batters for the Phoenix (1-3) in a win over the Seahawks (1-5) in Livermore Falls.

Lovewell walked five and allowed two hits in a complete game.

Boothbay’s Casey Phelps also had 14 strikeouts and yielded only three hits.

Lovewell singled, recorded the game’s only RBI and scored a run. Levi Richards and Kolby Cotton also singled, and Blake Gemelli and Richards each scored a run.

Phelps and Aiden Locke got Boothbay’s hits.

SOFTBALL

SCARBOROUGH 11, THORNTON ACADEMY 0: Scarlett Floyd and Savannah Caron each had two hits, and the Red Storm (5-1) used two big innings to beat the visiting Trojans (1-4) in five innings.

The Red Storm scored three runs in the first inning and eight in the third.

Floyd, who pitched a two-hitter, and Caron each hit a double.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BONNY EAGLE 6, GORHAM 1: Elizabeth Hamilton put in three goals to pace the Scots (4-1) to a win over the Rams (0-5) in Gorham.

Kalia Davis, Marley Hart and Caroline Krunkkala each chipped in with a goal, and Bonny Eagle goalie Brynn Tilburg made seven saves.

Kennady Peary scored and Lydia Spear stopped 10 shots for Gorham.

CHEVERUS 19, MARSHWOOD 7: Sophie Tamulevich, Brooke Brunelle and Sydney Brunelle combined for 15 goals as the Stags (4-1) defeated the Hawks (3-2) in South Berwick.

Tamulevich led the attack with six goals, followed by Brooke Brunelle with five and Sydney Brunelle with four.

Maddy Poitras paced Marshwood with four goals.

FREEPORT 11, YORK 6: Keeley Furtney scored three goals, Ella Tracy, Sophie Simard and Karleigh Costello each added two, and the Falcons (2-4) handled the Wildcats (0-3) in Freeport.

Isla Pattershall and Claire Carter also scored for Freeport, while Maddie Kryzak made four saves.

Lucy Taylor led York with three goals, followed by Ella Neiverth with two and Evie Martin with one. Piper Schambach stopped eight shots.
