BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A group in Burlington is hosting events all summer geared to help foster community among new parents.

The music was bumping last Thursday before sunset as a crowd of moms, dads, and tots gathered to socialize in Burlington’s South End.

“Everyone’s heard the saying, ‘it takes a village,’ and we’re just helping people to build their village and find their village,” said Holidae Rochman with the Grow Prenatal & Family Center.

Rochman teaches yoga, facilitates pregnancy circles, and is also a doula. But on Tuesday, she was helping a DJ throw a family-friendly set at the Pinery.

“We met the owners here of the Pinery and they were like, ‘We have this awesome outdoor space.’ It just kind of seemed like a no-brainer that we would bring families together here,” Rochman

Every Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., the Pinery presents “On the Door Radio,” where local DJs spin tunes, food trucks dish up treats.

“It’s a good opportunity for DJs who normally play late-night — 10 to 2 — to do a daytime set, and the community gets to see them in a more family-friendly environment,” said the Pinery’s Ben Blanchard.

The free event goes all summer long.
