South Carolina softball stymies Clemson in rivalry win

CLEMSON — Jori Heard held Clemson to just three hits as South Carolina left McWhorter Stadium with a 3-1 victory on April 14.

The Gamecocks (24-20) evened the season’s rivalry series with the win, avenging the Tigers’ 8-0 run-rule victory in Columbia on March 25.

South Carolina jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame with Tori Ensley’s single to center field, scoring Karley Shelton and Arianna Rodi.

Jamie Mackay added an insurance run with a solo homer in the seventh inning. Clemson’s Macey Cintron answered with her own solo shot in the bottom half but Heard, who had only one strikeout but allowed just one walk, retired the rest.
