Skowhegan town manager investigated for child exploitation before his death

Skowhegan’s town manager faced an investigation into alleged online child sexual exploitation before his death.

Nicholas Nadeau, 32, of Winslow allegedly sent inappropriate messages to a 14-year-old Florida girl, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The girl tipped off the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which then informed the Maine State Police, which launched an investigation earlier this month.

The investigation was in its early stages when the Skowhegan Select Board announced Nadeau’s death this week.

Investigators found evidence “consistent with sexual exploitation,” but given his death, the case has been closed with no charges filed, Moss said Wednesday.
