Sissonville High School gets $20K grant for STEM technology

SISSONVILLE, WV (WOWK) – Sissonville High School received a major grant on Thursday to help further their students’ learning.

Optimum presented Sissonville High School with a check for $20,000 to go toward their STEM program. This marks the fifth year in a row that Optium has supported public schools across their service areas.

The grant will allow Sissonville HS to purchase new technology resources to further enhance learning in STEM for students.

“More than just about video games. The skills that they learn in there have to do with coding, critical thinking. And it also allows an avenue for kids that may not necessarily be involved in secondary athletics, but they are still competitive and want to compete. It’s an outlet for them to develop that as well,” said Gene Smith, Sissonville HS principal.

As of Thursday, Optimum has funded more than 14,000 classroom projects, with a focus on STEM-based projects, in more than 6,000 schools across the country.
