This afternoon cloudier skies continue to blanket parts of New Mexico with showers moving through the southwest. Today, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move from south to north across the state and into southwest Colorado. Cloud coverage may play factor in limiting thunderstorm potential; however, wet weather will be sticking around through the first half of the week. Shower and storm chances will still lead to the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding in southwest New Mexico and Colorado.
Montezuma, La Plate and Archuleta Counties are underneath a Flood Watch until tomorrow morning from the National Weather Service (NWS). A Flood Warning is in effect until Midnight on Wednesday for section of northeast La Plata County, with Pagosa Springs still underneath a Flood Warning until tomorrow evening. In addition, a third Flood Warning was issued from the National Weather Service for another section of Archuleta County, for the Piedra River Basin, until Tuesday, 3 PM.
Moisture in the atmosphere will continue to lean off after Wednesday. A few isolated rain chances are still around on Thursday, but a Pacific cold front is expected to bring cooler and drier conditions. This may cause a few cities to hit their first freezes of the season as overnight lows bottom out in the low 30s. Late in the week sunshine is expected in the metro area.
