Shooting at Rihanna’s house: Ivana Lisette Ortiz, woman accused of opening fire at singer’s LA home, expected in court

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The woman accused of firing shots at Rihanna’s Los Angeles mansion while the singer was home could be in court Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Police Department said Tuesday morning that Ivana Lisette Ortiz drove to Los Angeles from Florida before the shooting.

“My understanding is the person drove here from Florida. How long they’ve been in the area … I don’t have that information,” said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. “They’re working on that. That would be part of the whole motive, why the person came out here. We haven’t established a motive, we do know, and are aware of, social media posts that had been made that they’re looking into further.”

Rihanna’s Beverly Glen mansion was hit by gunfire while the singer was home, according to the LAPD and sources with knowledge of the investigation.

Investigators said she went to the singer’s home Sunday afternoon with a semiautomatic rifle and fired multiple rounds toward the house. The singer was home at the time and was not hurt.

Ortiz has been booked for attempted murder and her bail has been set at more than $10 million.

Police said part of the reason Ortiz’s bail has been set at $10 million is because there were 10 victims present during the shooting.

Details about the shooting at Rihanna’s home

Multiple shots were fired at the residence, but none penetrated the inside of her home, only the exterior, sources said. Multiple rounds did hit the outside of the home, though, as well as a vehicle parked out front.

Video from the scene showed bullet holes covered with tape on the home’s front gate.

Sources said that the weapon allegedly used by Ortiz was an AR-style gun. At least two homes on the block had bullet holes.

In dispatch audio, officials are heard saying the suspect’s Tesla was followed by an LAPD helicopter into a mall parking garage, where she was pulled over and detained by patrol units.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Ortiz knew if Rihanna lived at the home. The motive of the shooting remains under investigation, but law enforcement sources told ABC News that they are looking at all aspects of Ortiz’ life, including her social media presence, to find answers.

Rihanna shares three children with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. It’s unclear if A$AP Rocky and the children were home at the time of the shooting.

What we know about Ivana Lisette Ortiz

According to police, Ortiz had posted multiple videos on social media in recent months, rambling about Rihanna.

One video was posted on Jan. 4. In that video, Ortiz is heard saying “Listen Rihanna, when you die God is taking me to my future.. yeah, she wants to kill me. Shut the [expletive] up.”

Ortiz’ criminal record from Florida shows several incidents of domestic violence dating back to 2023.
