SHIPROCK, N.M. – Former Shiprock standout Shiyazh Pete surprised students at Shiprock High with a pep rally visit that brought NFL-level inspiration back to campus.
Pete returned to his alma mater for a surprise visit during a pep rally at Shiprock High.
Principal Erving Trujillo said seeing someone who once attended the school reach the NFL gives students someone they can relate to.
“He’s been a great impact, and through his example of being in the NFL and trying out and being part of the Dallas Cowboys, has been a big inspiration for not only our kids, but many kids across the nation, and especially Native American kids,” Trujillo said.
Pete took photos with students and encouraged them to chase their dreams.
For students at Shiprock High, the visit gave them a chance to meet an NFL player and see that someone from their community can reach football’s biggest stage and still return home.
