GRAFTON (NewsDakota)- Reinforcements arrived for Carrington football on Friday, and while they provided an early boost, a second half avalanche ensured the search for a win would continue.
The Grafton Spoilers scored the games’ final 26 points in a 26-7 win in the Region 2A opener in Grafton on Friday night to remain undefeated and keep the Cardinals winless.
After Krew Wolsky picked off Easton Hansel on the games’ opening possession, the Cardinals (0-3, 0-1 Region 2A) went to work on the ground as Gabe Clifton, in his season debut, ran five times for 26 yards and on fourth down, Parker Bickett found Hayden Hagel for his first career touchdown catch and it was 7-0 Carrington.
It stayed that way until late in the half when Hansel found Aidan McMillan in the end zone with two minutes left before halftime to cut the lead to 7-6 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.
But in the second half, the Spoilers (3-0, 1-0 Region 2A) dominated, beginning with a five play drive, all on the ground, capped by a fifteen yard touchdown run by Hansel for a 12-7 lead. After a three-and-out, Bryson Almen took the punt 61 yards for a touchdown and it was 18-7 Grafton. True Moberg added a late one-yard score to set the final at 26-7.
The Cardinals will host longtime rival Harvey/Wells County, who defeated Langdon Area/Munich 41-13, on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium. KDAK GameDay coverage begins at 5pm.
