Scotties claim runner-up honors in region

Glasgow’s boys’ team claimed runner-up honors in Saturday’s Class A, Region 2 track and field meet at Campbellsville High School.

The Scotties scored 79 points to finish behind boys’ champion Green County (113). Edmonson County finished eighth with 37 points and Russellville was 10th with 18 points.

In the girls’ meet, Green County took the team championship with 128 points. Glasgow was third with 72, Russellville tied for fifth with 50 and Edmonson County was seventh with 25.

Jayden Estes was a two-time individual champion after winning both the 110-meter hurdles (16.32 seconds) and 300 hurdles (41.06). Jerrick Martin added a win in the long jump (22 feet, 2 inches) and the Scotties won two relays. Jaylen Bradley, Keyshawn Austin, Kaebran Jones and Martin combined to win the 400 relay (42.86). Austin, Bradley, Jeremiah Moore and Estes claimed first place in the 1,600 relay (3:31.98).

Also for the Scotties, Reid Harper and Ryder Heller won both the mixed 100 relay (13.58) and mixed 400 relay (54.55).

Edmonson County got an individual win from Aidan Meredith in the 800 (2:01.95). The Wildcats’ quartet of Tanner Bates, Jack Browning, Meredith and Blake Head won the 3,200 relay (8:29.59).

Glasgow’s Aniston Young claimed victories in both the 100 (13.10) and 200 (27.02) to headline the Lady Scotties’ day. Glasgow’s Danica Stephens, Keauna Brown, Taylor Wilson and Young teamed up to win both the 400 relay (51.43) and 800 relay (1:49.23)

Russellville’s DeMyiah Allen won the shot put (39-01.00).

Softball

Greenwood 9, Mercy Academy 8

Madilyn Allen hit a walk-off, three-run home run to boost homestanding Greenwood to a 9-8 win against Mercy Academy on Friday.

Allen finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Cali Huff was 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

Greenwood (23-11) faces Bowling Green in the District 14 semifinals Monday at South Warren.

Bowling Green 13, Glasgow 2

Visiting Bowling Green wrapped up the regular season with 13-2 win in six innings against Glasgow on Friday.

Hadley Morrison was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Baylee Shoemake went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Ansley Turner was 2-for-4 and Addison Darnall drove in two runs for the Lady Purples.

Turner pitched all six innings to earn the win, allowing two runs while striking out four batters.

Bowling Green (18-13) faces Greenwood in the District 14 semifinals Monday at South Warren.

Glasgow (13-13) takes on Barren County in the District 15 semifinals Monday at Warren East.

Barren County 17, Logan County 0

Barren County needed only three innings to put away host Logan County for a 17-0 win Friday.

Norah Shirley was 4-for-4 with two home runs, four runs scored and seven RBIs. Hadley Elkins homered and drove in four runs, Khloe Westmoreland was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Lily Elmore went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Shea Bogue and Addie Wheeler each chipped in with an RBI.

Bogue pitched all three innings for the win, allowing no runs off one hit and no walks while striking out four.

Barren County (15-7) faces Glasgow in the District 15 semifinals Monday at Warren East.

Logan County (8-18) is at Franklin-Simpson for the District 13 semifinals Monday.

Central Hardin 7, Warren East 5

Warren East dropped a 7-5 road decision to Central Hardin on Friday.

Kaylee Jones went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Lady Raiders in the loss. Kynleigh Barrick and Autumn Brooks were both 2-for-4, and Jordan Brooks, Layla Gosnell and Emerye Ratliff each drove in a run.

Warren East (15-19) hosts Allen County-Scottsville in the District 15 semifinals Monday.
