Sale of long-term West Virginia care facilities finalized

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — The $60 million sale of four state-owned long-term care facilities in West Virginia was finalized, according to a Saturday release from the Office of Governor Patrick Morrisey.

The release said Hopemont Hospital, Jackie Withrow Hospital, John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center and Lakin Hospital, are now under the ownership of Marx Development Group (MDG), with MDG subsidiary Majestic Care taking over operations.

“This marks an important milestone in our work to strengthen healthcare services and modernize the state’s operations,” Gov. Morrisey said. “West Virginia patients can look forward to enhanced care, modernized facilities, and a commitment to quality care. This is another step forward in improving care outcomes for our patients while protecting taxpayer dollars.”

MDG also agreed to continue the leasing agreement with FMRS Health Systems and the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) located on the Jackie Withrow Hospital property for two years, after which the involved parties can choose to renew the lease on an annual basis for an additional five years.

MDG has also committed $80 million to build at least three new long-term care facilities in West Virginia.
