Fargo, N.D. (KXNET)- Right now, many runners from around the state are logging some miles in preparation for a series of races that happen next weekend.
Men and women are getting ready to lace up their shoes for the 21st annual Fargo Marathon.
This year’s races begin on Friday evening with the 5K, and then Saturday morning with the marathon, half marathon and 10K.
Right now, the Red River in Fargo is under a flood warning, which is expected to expire on Wednesday.
Race organizer Chip Hazewski says last year’s heavy rain meant race staff altered the race route, which is a similar path runners will follow this year.
“You know, we learned our lesson last year, having to make adjustments at the last minute because of the flooding that occurred,” Hazewski said. “So, the course this year is the quote, unquote flood-proof course. Even though it’s not ever 100 percent flood proof. We went with the option that was the least likely to change.”
Last year’s marathon events brought around 13,000 runners to town.
This year, however, there won’t be the Furgo dog run or the Cyclothon after race staff announced they were canceling both events.
