Roseau County couple charged with misdemeanor after their young son dies in an accidental shooting

ROSEAU CO., Minn. (KVRR) — A Roosevelt, Minnesota couple has a court date set after the tragic loss of their youngest child in an accidental shooting.

Ted and Danielle Stewart are set to appear in Roseau County Court on November 3 on the charge of negligent storage of firearms.

The gross misdemeanor could result in up to a year in jail and a fine of $3,000.

According to court documents on September 4, 8-year-old McGregor Stewart was playing with a brother after their father left for work.

They took out a .22 rifle and as they laid it on their parents bed, it fired and hit McGregor in the neck.

He was later pronounced dead of his injuries.

During the investigation, officers removed 14 rifles and pistols from the bedroom, many of which were loaded.

They also found 13 guns in an adjoining closet and another 7 weapons from the hallway, living room and coat closet.

All but one firearm was unsecured.

A GoFundMe to help the family with funeral and other costs has already raised over $12,000.
