Robert Messer

Sunapee, NH – Robert Wheeler Messer passed away on February 19 at the age of 57. Born on September 6, 1968, he was the eldest son of Richard and Kathie Messer of Bradford, NH. He graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School in 1986 and spent most of his life in the Bradford area. Rob took great pride in working for himself, operating his timber transport company, Newbury Timber Transport LLC, for nearly 30 years. Over the course of his career, he also worked alongside his father and brother Joe at RHM Construction Inc., and more recently with Messer Dirt Worx. Some of his proudest accomplishments came from his contributions to the subdivision developments completed by RHM over the years.

Outside of work, Rob pursued his hobbies with great enthusiasm. He loved skiing, taking memorable trips up Tuckerman’s Ravine and to Whistler Blackcomb. He spent time boating on Great Bay, deep-sea fishing with friends, and hunting and target shooting on family property. Summers often found him “on tour” on his motorcycle with Christine and his friends, and in winter he enjoyed snowmobiling and days spent at the sugar house.

Above all, Rob loved cooking – testing new recipes and bringing people together through food. He was a phenomenal chef, and his daughters will miss staple meals, such as his legendary ribs and pulled pork off the smoker. His one-of-a-kind sense of humor will be missed by all, especially his brother Joe. He found his greatest joy in time spent with animals, particularly his beloved dogs, Hannibal and Kabar.

Rob was predeceased by his grandparents, Leonard Wheeler, Devona Doughty, Robert A. Messer, and Vivian Messer; his great-uncle Ralph and great-aunt Oona; his aunt, Sandra Messer Toomey; his father, Rick; many beloved animals; and, most recently, his cherished dog, Hannibal.

He is survived by his partner, Christine Corey; his daughters, Darienne, Caitlyn, and Riley Messer; his mother, Kathie Messer; his brother Joe and wife April, along with their children, Bristol and Remington Messer; his aunts, Janet Peterson, June Chism, and Carol Messer; Christine’s family; as well as many cousins and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to your local animal shelter. Rob’s favorite was Riverside Rescue in Lunenburg, VT, where he was united with his favorite dog, Hannibal, then known as “Cash.”

A celebration of life will be held on September 12th at 1:00 PM in the field where he grew up, located at 408 Fairgrounds Rd., Bradford, where we will gather to remember and honor him in the way he would have preferred.
