Repeat offender given additional 10 years for assault

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A repeat offender currently serving time in the State Penitentiary has received an additional 10 years for an aggravated domestic assault.

SFPD: 2 East Side weekend garage burglaries

According to the Pennington County State’s Attorney’s Office, Matthew Hade, 30, committed the assault last October while on probation for a prior rape conviction in Meade County.

Testimony said Hade got angry with his 19-year-old girlfriend after she confronted him about an ex. Hade punched her, threw a weight at her, and strangled her multiple times, leaving her nearly unconscious.

Assistant Chief Deputy State’s Attorney Jason Thomas told the Court that Hade has “proven he will not change and cannot be trusted to refrain from harming women” and urged a 20-year sentence. Since Hade is a habitual offender, the maximum penalty increased to 25 years instead of the original sentence of 15 years.

The 10-year sentence will run consecutively with the 27-year sentence Hade is currently serving.
