INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several chances for rain and storms are possible through early next week.

Today:

Showers and thunderstorms this morning will gradually focus on southern portions of Central Indiana as the morning progresses. The frontal boundary responsible for these showers and storms will move slowly toward the southeastern parts of the state, nearly stalling.

This slow-moving front will lead to intermittent showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon hours.

With peak daytime heating, a strong storm or two cannot be ruled out. Damaging winds would be the primary concern for any storm reaching severe levels.

High temperatures will be cooler due to cloud cover and rain, with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Tonight:

Rain coverage will decrease as the front slowly shifts south of Central Indiana during the evening and overnight hours. Expect mostly cloudy to overcast conditions. Patchy dense fog is also possible, especially in the southern half of the state.

Lows will drop to the mid-60s.

Friday:

Unsettled weather will persist as Thursday’s front lingers, bringing periodic showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. While there will be plenty of dry periods, rain is possible at any time.

Regarding severe weather potential, a strong storm or two is possible, particularly south of the I-70 corridor, on Friday afternoon. Damaging winds and large hail would be the primary threats.

Locally heavy rainfall and flooding are also risks, as heavy downpours are possible throughout Friday.

High temperatures will remain reasonable, topping out in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

This weekend:

The active weather pattern will continue into the weekend; however, rain chances may hold off until late Saturday and Sunday evenings, leaving many dry hours during the daytime. Uncertainty remains regarding the exact timing of showers and storms and how widespread the rain may be.

High temperatures will be seasonable on both Saturday and Sunday, reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Next week:

Chances for showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue into the start of the workweek, with Monday and Tuesday highs in the upper 70s.

A large area of high pressure will build into the Midwest, bringing dry and seasonable conditions for midweek and beyond, with near-normal highs.
