Quiet Wednesday before conditions change Thursday in New Mexico

Here comes the cooler weather! See the latest at KOB.com/Weather.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Not too much will happen in the Albuquerque metro Wednesday weather-wise but some showers will dot the Four Corners and northern mountains.

There is a very small sprinkle or light shower chances near Albuquerque this morning. However, most of the changes happen tonight and tomorrow.

A freeze warning is in effect for the northern Rio Grande Valley areas, near Taos, where it could drop to just below freezing tomorrow morning. Most of the colder weather will move in from the northeast tomorrow. As the cold front moves across the state, from northeast to southwest, the winds will get stronger.

There are high wind watches for Thursday evening into Friday. Winds along the central mountains and Tijeras Canyon could be strong. Some of the stronger gusts may be 50-65 mph at times.

We could then see some freezing temperatures from about Torrance County through near Las Vegas and up along I-25 to Raton by Friday morning.

No freeze warning for Albuquerque. However, we will see cooler weather around the Duke City with highs in the lower 60s by Friday.
