INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Public Safety Foundation on Thursday night highlighted Domestic Violence Prevention Month with its annual Clothesline of Courage event at Brightwood Community Center.
The event featured tables with homemade jewelry, gifts, and T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan Stop Domestic Violence. The event also provided information and resources for victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Danyette Smith, an organizer from the Indy Public Safety Foundation, said, “It’s super important because, one, we’re meeting them where they are. If that ZIP code is one of the highest (with domestic violence reports) here in the city, going to them instead of hosting something that’s not in one of those areas, we’re bringing the resources to them, letting them know we see the numbers, we hear the cries, even though they may not be coming directly to us, and we’re bringing those service providers as well as that information.”
Organizers also plan to share their resources from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday on the city’s far east side at the Amoco station located at the intersection of Shadeland Avenue and Pendleton Pike, an area noted for high domestic violence cases. On top of providing free gas and IndyGo bus passes, people from all of Marion County’s domestic violence agencies will provide resources and support.
