Portland’s Y% F Coffee to reopen Friday

Y%F Coffee plans to reopen Friday after addressing code violations that prompted the city to shut it down earlier this week.

The coffee shop, located at 600 Congress St., had been ordered to close Tuesday because it didn’t have a business license or certificate of occupancy, and also had an improperly installed HVAC system.

Y%F Coffee owner Yousif Albadri said the owner of the building addressed the issues this week, and that his business was cleared to reopen. City spokesperson Jessica Grondin confirmed that the HVAC problem was fixed and that the city granted Y%F its business license and certificate of occupancy Thursday afternoon.

“They have what they need to reopen,” Grondin said. Y%F Coffee will resume its normal business hours Friday.

The city had also fined the coffee shop $1,000. Albadri said he paid the fine, though he expects the building owner will reimburse his business, since the non-compliance “wasn’t our mistake.”
