Syracuse, N.Y. — Port Byron softball pitcher Jenna Jump entered Monday’s sectional quarterfinal matchup with Cooperstown without having allowed a hit all postseason.

She walked off the field the same way.

Jump threw her second consecutive no-hitter in the No. 2 Panthers’ 4-0 win over the No. 7 Hawkeyes.

“We rally around her,” Port Byron coach William DeAngelis said. “We all get fired up.”

Jump’s pitching was so dominant that she barely let Cooperstown’s batters get their bats on the ball. The only contact in play all game came on two popouts — the other 19 outs were strikeouts.

Jump reached two milestones in her effort. She struck out her 200th batter of the season and the 400th batter of her career.

Jump’s dominance on the mound starts with her command. Of the 98 pitches the senior threw, over 70 were strikes. It was a near repeat of Saturday’s no-hitter against Frankfort-Schuyler, where she posted a similar strike-to-pitch ratio.

“When you‘re throwing like that, and you‘re not getting hit, it says a lot,” DeAngelis said.

Port Byron was propelled offensively by outfielder Catarina DeAngelis. The senior went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Freshman Mallory Mills had an RBI single and a run. Jump made her presence felt at the plate as well by driving in a run with a single.

Cooperstown hurler Emerson Lippett had a commendable outing. The senior struck out eight batters while only allowing six hits in her six innings of work.

Cooperstown finishes its campaign with a 12-3 record. The Hawkeyes took down No. 10 Cincinnatus to reach the quarterfinals.

The Panthers have now won 10 consecutive contests.

Port Byron (17-2) is set to take on No. 3 Thousand Islands on Tuesday. The Panthers eliminated the Vikings in the postseason last year.

“The players’ mental state in the game is pretty well,” DeAngelis said. “They’re focused. They’re dialed in.”
