Personnel changes and purchases highlight Stuttgart School Board’s special meeting

Personnel took center stage at the special called meeting of the Stuttgart School Board held on Wednesday, May 21.

The board began the meeting with a lengthy executive session that lasted about 45 minutes. Upon returning to regular session, the board approved the following resignation:

  • Elizabeth Walker, quiz bowl stipend only, effective for the 2025–26 school year.

The board approved the following new hires:

  • Leondra Savage Williams, Director of Curriculum and Federal Programs
  • Cecial Caldwell Cannon, high school teacher
  • Naomi Parks, library paraprofessional
  • Ian Taylor, junior high teacher/coach
  • Freddie McCoy Givens, elementary teacher
  • Jansen Derden, elementary teacher
  • Alaina Amstutz, elementary teacher

The board approved the following contract changes:

  • Julie Dyer, from a 195-day to a 200-day contract
  • Tamika Cohns, summer worker
  • Savanna Snow, assistant volleyball coach

The board approved the addition of head and assistant coaching stipends for volleyball. The head coach stipend will be $3,800, and the assistant coach stipend will be $3,100.

The board approved the sale of two buses that need to be rotated out of use. The buses, which are the oldest in the fleet, will be sold via auction or a bidding process.

The board also approved the purchase of a used 2023 Bluebird 71-passenger bus from Central State Bus Sales for $98,500. The bus has fewer than 30,000 miles on it.

Additionally, the board approved the purchase of 21 SMART Boards at a total cost of $70,598.45. Two boards will go to Park Avenue Elementary, with the remainder allocated to the junior high.

The board approved the purchase of Amplify curriculum for K–5 literacy and grades 3–8 science at a cost of $65,000. Curriculum Associates was approved for K–5 math at a cost of $145,000.

With no further business, the board adjourned.

The next regular meeting of the Stuttgart School Board is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the administration office.
