Patriots Point salutes its members

As Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum marks the 50th anniversary of its opening in 1976, the museum is celebrating the supporters who help sustain its mission during Member Appreciation Month this March.

For 50 years, Patriots Point has stood as a home for history in Charleston Harbor, where the decks of storied ships and the echoes of combat have transformed historic relics into one of the Lowcountry’s most meaningful institutions. Throughout March, Patriots Point will host exclusive programs, special giveaways and limited-time membership savings designed to thank current supporters while welcoming new members to join the Friends of the Fleet.

“Membership plays an essential role in sustaining the mission of Patriots Point and the USS Yorktown Foundation,” said Kayla Webber, Director of Community Relations & Membership for the USS Yorktown Foundation. “Our members help preserve our historic ships, support educational programs for students and ensure that the stories of the men and women who served our country continue to inspire future generations. As we celebrate the museum’s 50th anniversary, we are especially grateful for the community that has helped make that legacy possible.”

The membership program at Patriots Point is managed by the USS Yorktown Foundation, the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization designated to raise philanthropic support for the museum and advance its preservation and educational initiatives.

During Member Appreciation Month, new and renewing members will receive $10 off any Friends of the Fleet membership level, providing an opportunity to join while supporting the continued preservation of our historic fleet, including the USS Yorktown (CV-10) and USS Laffey (DD-724). Membership support also helps fund educational scholarships for underserved students and the development of new exhibits.

As part of this year’s celebration, Patriots Point is partnering with Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens to offer members a special benefit throughout March. Friends of the Fleet members will receive complimentary admission to Boone Hall, providing the opportunity to experience another historic Lowcountry landmark while celebrating the region’s shared heritage. Additional activities throughout the month include a special guided tour aboard the USS Yorktown and weekly member prize giveaways featuring experiences from local partners.

Members will also be invited to attend Sunset Salute, a special appreciation gathering aboard the USS Yorktown on March 26 from 5:30 tp 7:30 p.m. The evening will include light refreshments, guided tours to areas of the ship not typically open to the public and a sunset toast recognizing the supporters who help keep the mission moving forward.

Friends of the Fleet membership provides year-round benefits including unlimited museum admission, priority access to programs and events, discounts on tours and purchases, as well as exclusive member experiences.
