The Oregon State baseball team has lost a former part-time starter to the transfer portal.
Jabin Trosky, the slick-fielding second baseman who had a hard time staying healthy in Corvallis, has entered the portal, a team source confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Trosky started parts of two seasons during his four years in Corvallis and entered 2025 in a battle with AJ Singer for the starting second base job. But he suffered an apparent left shoulder injury early in the season and underwent surgery in March, ending his season before it started.
Trosky, who hit .287 with four doubles and 20 RBIs in 64 career games, also missed the 2023 season because of right elbow surgery.
When he was healthy, Trosky was a reliable contributor and well-liked player in the clubhouse who regularly drew praise from coaches and teammates. He opened his career as a freshman role player, seeing action in 24 games, including 11 starts, during which he hit .288 with 11 RBIs and nine walks.
Trosky smacked six hits in his first 11 career at-bats and produced five multi-hit games in his first college season, seemingly setting himself up for a breakout sophomore season. Then he missed it because of the elbow surgery.
He returned healthy in 2024 and was a key contributor on a team that reached the super regionals, playing in 40 games, including 29 starts.
Late in the season, when coaches were desperate for help at third base, they turned to Trosky even though he never played the position, and he emerged as the Beavers’ starter down the stretch and in the playoffs.
By season’s end, he hit .287 with three doubles, 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored, while starting games at second base, shortstop and third base.
But now, a week before the Beavers are scheduled to play an NCAA baseball tournament regional matchup, Trosky has left the program. His name has been removed from the team’s official roster.
