One person killed in northeast Lincoln apartment fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One person was killed in an apartment fire in northeast Lincoln on Thursday.

Just before 3:50 p.m., several first responders were sent to the area of 52nd Street and Leighton Avenue on a two-alarm fire.

According to Lincoln Fire & Rescue, several occupants were trapped in the apartment when crews arrived.

Two people and a dog were rescued from the balcony of the building, and one person was found dead near the main entrance where the fire started, LFR said.

LFR and the Lincoln Police Department are currently on scene investigating.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are unknown at this time.
