One man dead, teen injured in head-on crash in Seymour

One person is dead and a teenager is injured following a head-on crash in Seymour on Thursday that allegedly involved an erratic driver, police said.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Route 34 and Maiden Lane at 3:43 p.m. when officers responded and found that a 2010 Nissan Rogue and a 2015 Dodge Charger had collided head-on, according to Chief John Bucherati of the Seymour Police Department.

The driver of the Rogue, 51-year-old Wade Meeker of Danbury, was found unresponsive with no pulse, Bucherati said. Officers gave him CPR before medics took over the resuscitation efforts.

According to Bucherati, Meeker was pronounced dead after a “prolonged attempt at resuscitation.”

The driver of the Charger, an 18-year-old woman, was conscious and alert, Bucherati said. She was taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, according to Bucherati.

Bucherati said the collision occurred after Seymour police were contacted by the Monroe Police Department at 3:27 p.m. about a motorist in a Rogue driving erratically on Route 34. Bucherati said officers were on their way to the area to investigate when the crash was reported.

The collision left Route 34, which is also known as Roosevelt Drive, shut down until just before 8:30 p.m.

Seymour police are investigating the crash with assistance from the Connecticut State Police C.A.R.S. Unit.
