The starting quarterback for Oklahoma State, Oregon’s Power Four nonconference opponent, was injured during Thursday’s season opener and is expected to miss next week’s game.
Cowboys redshirt freshman Hauss Hejny suffered a broken bone in his foot during the 27-7 win over UT Martin and is expected to miss “extended” time, according to CBSSports.
Hejny was 5 of 10 for 96 yards with a touchdown and had four carries for 27 yards and a score before the injury during the second quarter. The TCU transfer is one of 62 players in their first season at Oklahoma State, which also has an entirely new coaching staff under 21st-year head coach Mike Gundy, who did not provide an update as to Hejny’s injury after the game.
Hejny was replaced by third-year freshman Zane Flores, who went 13 of 20 for 136 yards with three carries for eight yards.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Flores did not play while redshirting as a true freshman and missed all of last season due to injury and received a medical hardship waiver. Flores was a three-star prospect rabjed No. 30 among QBs in the class of 2023, according to the 247Sports Composite.
