A man was shot in the leg and his dog was killed by police after he was attacked by the dog in his Mount Vernon residence on Sunday, according to Baltimore Police Department.
At 4:44 p.m. on Sunday, Baltimore Police officers responded to a report of an animal bite on the 900 block of St. Paul Street. From outside of the house, officers asked the dog’s owner, a 33-year-old man, to secure the dog, who had been aggressive and bitten the owner in the residence, according to police.
The man was attacked again after he was unable to secure the dog. He then left the house while the dog continued to attack him, according to police.
Officers fatally shot the dog and also struck the owner in the leg, police said.
The owner was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and several dog bite wounds. He was in stable condition, according to police.
The incident is being investigated by the police department’s Special Investigations Response Team.
