A few days after battling head-to-head in West Michigan Conference crossover action, the Ludington and North Muskegon boys basketball teams notched noteworthy wins in non-conference action on Saturday.
The Orioles traveled to the Jeff McDonald Memorial Showcase in Cadillac to take on Elk Rapids and came away with an impressive 65-55 overtime win over the Elks to improve to 13-1 overall on the season.
Ludington trailed by seven points entering the fourth quarter but responded with a 17-10 run to force overtime at 53-53. The Orioles continued to carry that momentum into the extra session, where they outscored the Elks 12-2 to secure the comeback win.
Taj Williams finished with 21 points to lead Ludington, while Kyle Himes Jr. added 20 points and Messiah Himes had 13.
Mason Cannon scored 13 points to lead Elk Rapids (9-3), while Jacob Moore added 10.
North Muskegon used a second-quarter surge to pull away from Western Michigan Christian on Saturday and secure a 53-46 home win in non-conference action.
Braylen Burrel finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists to lead North Muskegon (15-1), while Adam Dugener added 15 points, five assists, and three steals, Teddy Lamiman had six points and David Markiewicz had five points, four assists and two blocks.
Brody Haveman scored a game-high 20 points to lead WMC (5-5), while Tyson Annema added 10 points and Zach Weare had eight points.
“It was a good basketball game played by two good teams,” said North Muskegon head coach Chuck Rypstra. “WMC played really good defense and made everything tough for us. We were able to deal with it better in the middle two quarters and then held on down the stretch.”

BOYS BASKETBALL
Grand Rapids Covenant Christian 71, Whitehall 48
Pierce Westerlund finished with 13 points to lead Whitehall, while Alex Winczewski added 12 points and six rebounds, Corde Anderson had 12 points and eight rebounds and Rex Pumford had nine points and seven rebounds.
Cadillac 57, Manistee 51
The Mariners fell behind 20-14 in the opening quarter and couldn’t complete a fourth-quarter rally, as they fell to the Vikings at the Jeff McDonald Memorial Showcase.
Chaos Davis finished with 18 points to lead Manistee (4-8), while Dayvion Neal-Berry added 16 points and Landin Sowa had nine points.
Kyle Ross scored 15 points to lead Cadillac (5-6), while Domenic Wing added 14 points and eight rebounds, David Nobles had 11 points and five rebounds and Alex McGowan had seven points and 11 rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
White Cloud 64, Lakeview 32
The Indians jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and continued to cruise past the Wildcats for a convincing win in CSAA White action.
Andi Vincent finished with 24 points and four steals to lead White Cloud (3-5, 1-3 CSAA White), while Kylie Zimmer added 15 points and three steals and Aubri Vincent had 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists.
