The body of a 12-year-old boy was found in the St. Francis River on Sunday morning on the third day of the search, according to the sheriff’s office.
The boy, whose name had not been released as of Sunday afternoon, was found at 9:23 a.m. near the Iron Bridge access in Craighead County, sheriff’s office Assistant Chief Deputy Jason Allen said. The area was near the location where the boy originally disappeared.
The boy was last seen at about 6:25 p.m. Friday while he, his sibling and mother were swimming at the access off Arkansas 69 between Lake City and Trumann. Authorities began searching the area that evening, Allen said.
The Iron Bridge access was closed to the public during the search and has now been reopened.
