BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) – Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota issued 94 alcohol- or drug-related citations and arrests during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which ran from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2.
Of those, 54 were for driving under the influence. Officers also cited or arrested seven individuals for minor in consumption or possession, and 11 for open container violations. The campaign resulted in seven drug-related arrests.
Alcohol was a factor in roughly 21% of motor vehicle fatalities in North Dakota in 2024, down from 31% in 2023. Officials say impaired driving crashes and deaths are entirely preventable and urge motorists to take personal responsibility by driving sober, wearing seat belts, using proper child safety seats, and avoiding distractions.
The high-visibility enforcement effort is part of the state’s Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries.
