Wind speeds nearing 30 mph and periods of heavy rain are expected to impact the Baltimore area as a nor’easter moves along the coast of the mid-Atlantic.
A nor’easter is a type of storm along the East Coast characterized by strong northeast winds, heavy precipitation and coastal flooding. The National Weather Service indicates that Ocean City is expected to be the most affected area of Maryland, with wind speeds likely to reach 35 to 40 mph and gusts nearing 60 mph.

Officials warn that 1 to 2 feet of street flooding could occur in several low-lying areas, including downtown from the Inlet to 15th Street, Isle of Wight Mobile Home Park, Warrens Park, Little Salisbury and northern bayside neighborhoods.
Emergency response teams including Public Works, Police, Fire and Emergency Services will be fully staffed and on duty 24 hours a day throughout the storm.
A temporary emergency shelter will open at noon on Sunday at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. Those seeking shelter are encouraged to bring essential items such as food, medications, clothing, chargers and personal necessities.
For the Baltimore area, the National Weather Service issued a gale warning on Sunday morning. The warning, which covers the Chesapeake Bay and lower Potomac River, is expected to last throughout Sunday night.

Rain is expected between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, with wind speeds expected to reach as much as 28 mph. Conditions throughout Sunday are expected to be cloudy, and the high temperature is expected to be around 65.
On Sunday night into Monday, winds are expected to remain strong. Showers are predicted after 4 a.m. and cloudy conditions are expected to last throughout the night. Sunday night’s low is expected to reach 57.
On Monday, showers are likely between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Conditions throughout the day are expected to be cloudy with a high near 62. Wind speeds throughout Monday are forecasted to reach 25 mph.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected Monday night, along with the chance for showers before 2 a.m. The overnight low is expected to drop to around 56, and wind speeds are predicted to reach up to 23 mph.
Precipitation of the nor’easter is likely to cease Tuesday for the Baltimore area, as mostly sunny skies are expected. However, wind speeds are expected to reach 21 mph. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 71 before dropping to around 55 overnight.
Wednesday is expected to be sunny with a high of 68. Wednesday night is expected to remain mostly clear with a low around 45.
Sunny skies are expected to last throughout Thursday and Friday. Both days, the high is expected to be around 64 with clear skies at night and lows in the mid to low 40s.
