Three Upper Valley-based nonprofit organizations have received grants from the Vermont Community Foundation through its Arts & Social Cohesion grant program.

“The arts have a unique ability to create spaces where people feel welcome, seen, and connected,” Andy Barker, senior program officer at the Vermont Community Foundation, said in a news release. “When people create together, they thrive together. We’re excited to fund these projects that build trust and strengthen the relationships that are essential to personal and community wellbeing.”

Building A Local Economy, based in South Royalton, received $12,000 to host a free community arts program during the Royalton Farmers Market to create “opportunities for neighbors to connect through art, performances, and dialogue,” according to the release.

Land Matters, an Orange County-based organization, received $12,000 to put toward Thetford-based New Suns Community Center’s effort to start an arts residency program “that connects BIPOC artists with local communities through workshops and exhibitions,” according to the release.

White River Junction-based Special Needs Support Center received $11,000 for a program that brings “people with disabilities and community members together through inclusive arts experiences,” according to the release.
