Still in construction on Monday, Sept. 14, new playground equipment is being installed at the SCHEELS Sports Complex.
A new playground is being installed at the SCHEELS complex on 16th Avenue Southeast in Minot.
Ashley Gathman, marketing and development for the Minot Park District, said funding for the equipment and installation came from contributions from Minot Junior Golf, Minot Area Community Foundation and a grant through the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District.
According to Calyn Beckman, director of Finance at the park district, the playground cost around $738,009 and is an adaptable park, which means people of all abilities can play. The swings, slides and base of the park itself are all wheelchair safe, designed for everyone.
The playground is expected to open sometime in October.
Gathman remarked it is great to have partner organizations and without them, the park district “wouldn’t have been able to do it.”
Donations were MACF, $125,000; Minot Junior Golf, $100,000; Garrison Diversion, $50,000; and Sunrise Rotary, $15,000 for fencing, for a total of $290,000 in grants and donations from partners.
