New leaders elected for HART, work begins on Segment 3 of Skyline

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Effective Oct. 28, Kika G. Bukoski will serve as Chair of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation Board of Directors and Chris Takashige as Vice Chair, announced HART.

“I am honored to have been entrusted by my colleagues to lead the HART Board at such a pivotal time,” Bukoski said. “Our focus remains on delivering a rail system that is safe, reliable and truly serves our community while maintaining the highest standards of financial responsibility and transparency.”

Skyline’s success exploded over weekend with 61K riders

It was an unanimous election for both Bukoski, who served as Vice Chair and Chair Pro Tem after Chair Colleen Hanabusa’s resignation on Sept. 26, and Takashige into their new positions.

“I truly believe in this project as an essential part of addressing Hawaii’s growing population and transportation needs.”

Bukoski joined the board in 2020 with experience in business and local, state and federal government affairs, HART said in a press release.

He has demonstrated “steadfast leadership, a collaborative approach and a clear commitment” toward the Honolulu Rail Transit Project, added HART.

“I want to assure our community and stakeholders that the HART Board remains fully committed to mutual trust, respect and accountability in every decision we make. I truly believe in this project as an essential part of addressing Hawaii’s growing population and transportation needs,” Bukoski said. “We are dedicated to completing it on time and within budget.”

HART said Takeshige, who oversaw projects across the Pacific at AECOM Technical Services, has over 40 years of experience in construction management and engineering; he was appointed to the board by Mayor Rick Blangiardi on Aug. 1.

Takeshige has served the City and County of Honolulu as director of design and construction, as well as worked in the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

With Segment 2 of Skyline complete, HART is focused on Segment 3 — extending the project’s service beyond Middle Street and into Kakaʻako.
