A New Jersey woman stabbed her 2-year-old brother in the chest over the weekend, authorities said Sunday.
Marlene Rodriguez, 20, was charged with attempted murder for the attack at a home in Brick Township, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office said Sunday in a press release. The victim has not been publicly identified.
Cops responded to the home near the Garden State Parkway around 2:30 p.m., officials said. They found the 2-year-old boy with a stab wound to the chest, and he was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, authorities said. He was listed in stable condition.
Investigators determined Rodriguez had stabbed the boy in the chest, according to the prosecutor’s office. Cops did not publicly release the evidence that led them to that conclusion.
Rodriguez remained in Ocean County jail on Monday ahead of a detention hearing later in the week, according to online records. She was charged with attempted murder, child endangerment and two weapons crimes.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit handled the case.
