Nebraska Secretary of State’s office receives suspicious envelope

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Recent nationwide reports say letters with suspicious substances have been being sent to multiple congressional offices.

On Oct. 15, the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office confirmed they received an envelope with a suspicious substance.

The envelope was not opened.

“This is the second time we have had a situation like this occur during my time as Nebraska’s Secretary of State and, in both instances, swift action was taken to isolate and then investigate the suspicious mailing,” said Secretary Evnen. “I’d like to thank both my staff at the Secretary of State’s office for their diligence and law enforcement for their assistance.”

It is unknown what the substance is. The investigation is ongoing with the FBI.
