Nebraska Department of Labor launches new program to help displaced workers

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) has announced a new initiative, the Nebraska Rapid Reskilling and Reemployment Initiative.

The initiative is aimed at helping workers who have been displaced by automation, technological change or recent layoffs reconnect to jobs.

“As Nebraska’s industries continue to modernize, it’s critical that workers have access to fast, flexible pathways back into high‑demand careers,” Commissioner of Labor Katie Thurber said.  “This initiative is about meeting people where they are, removing barriers, and helping them return to work with the skills employers need right now.”

According to NDOL, the program will center around four key components to help displaced workers:

  1. Rapid engagement
  2. Individualized reemployment planning
  3. Short-term intensive training
  4. Expedited job placement.

NDOL said they wish to reduce unemployment duration through the new initiative.
