Names released for 5 dead in fiery crash near Badlands

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The names have been released for the five people that died in a fiery crash October 1 at 11:59 p.m. near Scenic, SD, just west of Badlands National Park.

According to a press release from the Department of Public Safety, 24-year-old Chad Lee Doyle Jr. was driving east in a 2004 Honda Pilot on SD Highway 44 near mile marker 90 and failed to negotiate a curve.

‘No one else who could have committed the crime’

The vehicle entered the north ditch and struck a concrete barrier, and the vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames.

Doyle and four passengers, Byron Joey Bear Killer, 23, Twila Whitney Hard Heart, 21, Danielle Lee Long Soldier, 33, and a 10-year-old girl died at the scene.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, no additional information on what caused the crash or fire has been provided.
