N.J. duo of Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd star as singers in ‘Power Ballad’

Paul Rudd is a wedding singer.

Nick Jonas is a boy band member whose star has fallen.

The upcoming movie “Power Ballad” pairs Rudd, who is originally from New Jersey, with Jonas, the Jersey pop star who continues to make inroads as an actor.

Deadline reports that the Lionsgate movie is set to land in theaters June 5, 2026.

Irish director John Carney (“Begin Again,” “Sing Street,” “Flora and Son”) is helming the film, which is written by Carney and Peter McDonald.

Rudd plays Rick, a wedding singer who meets Danny, the boy band member played by Jonas. Danny soars back to popularity using one of Rick’s songs, and Rick claims credit for writing it.

The cast includes McDonald as well as Havana Rose Liu, Jack Reynor and Marcella Plunkett.

Jonas and Rudd hail from the same counties in New Jersey — Bergen and Passaic.

Jonas, 33, who grew up in Wyckoff and Little Falls, found fame as a child with his siblings in the Jonas Brothers.

He’s currently on tour with the band for their 20th anniversary.

The Jonas Brothers’ Greetings From Your Hometown Tour (previously known as the Jonas20: Living the Dream Tour) launched in August at MetLife Stadium and comes to the Prudential Center in Newark Nov. 16 and 17.

Rudd, whose career has taken him from “Clueless” to playing Marvel’s Ant-Man to Judd Apatow comedies like “Knocked Up,” the recent “Ghostbusters” films and much more, was born in Passaic. He also lived in Palisades Park as a child before growing up in Kansas.

Last year, he was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

In his acceptance speech, the eternally youthful Rudd, 56, explained how his family came to Jersey after emigrating from England, and his father grew up in Paterson. Fair Lawn is the hometown of his cousins, aunt and uncle, and his grandparents lived in Lodi.

“So really, my life can be encapsulated by the opening credits of ‘The Sopranos,’” Rudd said.

Jonas, who recently starred in the Broadway musical “The Last Five Years,“ will be inducted to the state hall of fame next month alongside his brothers, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas.

“It feels surreal in a lot of ways, because we’ve obviously idolized all those folks for forever, and growing up in Jersey, it was always a dream to be recognized by anybody, but specifically by your hometown or your home state,” Nick Jonas told NJ Advance Media earlier this year.

“It’s really meaningful,“ he said of the New Jersey Hall of Fame honor. ”And I think it’s a little bit of fuel to keep going. This is certainly not the end of our journey. We’re really just gettin’ started. And so I think these motivators to keep going and pushing ourselves and to keep the foot on the gas is a really nice thing.”
