Greenberg said state-of-the-art seating, with three different designs, replaced the old stadium’s seats, which were brought back to Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cyndi Johnson said she has attended games at the ballpark for the last 11 years and is looking forward to summer nights filled with smiles and the comfort of Pelicans baseball.

“We got 11 games scheduled this year. My better half, he’s been doing it for 13 years coming here,” Johnson said. “They’re awesome. It’s an awesome team. Everything is so nice. To do this for them is the best thing because they were going to shut it down.”

Johnson said the new video board will drastically improve their spectator experience.

“He’ll be able to see the scoreboard now. Before when it was over [in the left outfield] when the sun set, you couldn’t even see the board. A lot of people couldn’t even see the board,” she said.

Johnson stays to the end of every game and enjoys the fireworks display the team puts together on special occasions throughout the summer.

Greenberg said the improvements represent a stadium the Myrtle Beach community can be proud of year-round and thanked their Major League Baseball affiliate the Chicago Cubs and MLB for setting a high standard for their athletes.

“MLB, which sometimes maybe got misportrayed in this process, MLB is really one of the heroes of this process because this project wouldn’t have taken place, but for the fact that Major League Baseball, quite properly, wants to have elite player development facilities for its elite athletes, which is a goal that I completely agree with,” Greenberg said.

The City of Myrtle Beach owns 100% of the Pelicans Ballpark, as a result of Horry County buying themselves out of their 30% ownership in the summer of 2025 for $6 million. The cost of stadium improvements, mandated by Major League Baseball’s new standards for Professional Development League facilities, was $20 million in addition to the cost of much-needed capital maintenance.
